Today, nurses promote and encourage breastfeeding, rooming-in and discourage bottles and pacifiers. Nurses and Lactation Consultants are trained to help new mom’s breastfeed and start them off with tips and techniques to make the breastfeeding experience successful. Working mom’s can still breastfeed, as the U.S. laws protect them. PVHMC has a Lactation Center where Associates and visitors can pump and freeze their breast milk while at work to keep their milk supply up and to feed the baby the next day.
I look back on the time I breastfed my babies with fond memories of special moments. Today, I’m proud to say that all three of my granddaughters have been breastfed and their mom’s realized the importance and benefit to breastfeeding. Next time you see a mom breastfeeding, give her an encouraging smile as she is doing the best for herself and her baby.
