Why We Are Different
Our GI Cancer team is a collaborative and interdisciplinary approach to assessing, planning, managing, monitoring, coordinating and evaluating the delivery of cancer care services for our community. We offer state-of-the-art technology, support services, and physician expertise. We strive to decrease the rate of advanced stage colon cancer, increase community awareness of our multidisciplinary GI program and increase clinical trials available for our patients.
We have participating physicians from primary care, gastroenterology, general surgery, medical oncology, radiation oncology and pathology. The team is led by Dr. A Mohn and also includes support staff and dedicated clinical trials and program coordinators. Our team adheres to National Cancer Care Network (NCCN) and joint American Cancer Society (ACS), American Gastroenterological Association (AGA) and Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) guidelines for work-up and treatment to ensure our patients receive the best possible care.

- Diagnostic imaging includes nuclear medicine. Nuclear medicine may diagnose illness by studying the function of the body rather than the structure.
- PET/CT scans are an integral part of a lung cancer diagnosis and management. Positron Emission Tomography (PET) and Computerized Tomography (CT) are both standing imaging tool that allow physicians to pinpoint the location of cancer within the body before making treatment recommendations. A PET/CT scan combines both of the above, making images even clearer.
- CT Colonography (virtual colonoscopy) is a imaging procedure with uses x-rays and computers to produce a two and three-dimensional images of the colon. This procedure is used to diagnose colon and bowel disease, including polyps, diverticulosis and cancer.
Gastro Intestinal (GI) Lab
The G.I. Lab performs a vital function in the early detection and identification of diseases and abnormalities of the gastro intestinal (GI) tract, which includes the esophagus, biliary system, stomach and the small and large intestines. Our GI Lab offers the latest in state-of-the-art medical equipment and technology. The physicians who utilize the Lab are gastroenterologists and surgeons who have been specially trained. Our highly skilled staff is committed to providing the best care available in the region. We are the first and only hospital in the region to use capsule endoscopy, an innovative non-invasive procedure to diagnose GI disorders of the small intestine. Multidisiplinary Care and Tumor Board
The GI Cancer Program participates in a weekly Pre-treatment and Tumor Board. They are designed to ensure that each patient diagnosed with GI cancer receives a multidisciplinary approach in their care. Physicians from different specialties provide their opinions on how to best manage and treat the patient.
Patient Care Coordinator Program
In addition to highly quality medical care, each patient is supported throughout this experience by our patient care coordinator. Our patient care coordinator will act as a liaison between our GI cancer program physicians, primary care physicians and patients.
