LADIES PLASTICS GOLF ORGANIZATION
Making A Difference for Breast Cancer Patients
In 1999, after realizing that she could make a difference for women and breast health, she along with six other women working in the plastics industry came up with the Ladies Plastics Golf Organization (LPGO), founded by Dee and based in Chino Hills. This mission of the LPGO is to host an annual golf tournament (the first one was held in 2000) to raise funds for breast cancer awareness and programs at The Robert and Beverly Lewis Family Cancer Care Center
The event has grown tremendously since its inception from 24 players the first year; and up to 164 in recent years. This special event has raised more than $150,000 in net proceeds for the Robert and Beverly Lewis Family Cancer Care Center – Breast Health Fund. These vital funds are used to:
Our patients are truly fortunate to have a local Cancer Care Center that offers free access to educational materials and wellness programs for anyone touched by cancer. “The reason that we selected the Cancer Care Center is they have a breast cancer awareness and wellness program and it is available to women and men from all over.” Dee said. “It’s our goal to help improve the quality of life on a local level and help those in need who are facing the disease.”
“The generosity of Ladies Plastics Golf Organization has helped us to help others”, said Martha Osborne, R.N., Breast Health Nurse and Educator at the Robert and Beverly Lewis Family Cancer Care Center. Their enthusiasm to raise more funds for the Breast Health Fund is contagious and very much appreciated by so many patients and family members who benefit from these vital programs.
Nancy, Dee’s sister, said the two are closer than ever and that she takes great pride in knowing that somewhere someone is getting the information they need to help them fight and win the battle of cancer. She also said that she is very proud of her sister, and is aware that she involved in a variety of activities that support cancer awareness.” Today, Nancy is a survivor and is thankful to have had the wonderful support from her loving sister - even if they were 3,000 miles apart.
Dee is extremely passionate in everything she does and enjoys helping people. “I like being a volunteer, and I enjoy raising funds and awareness for cancer.” Dee said. “When my husband passed, I went through a very difficult time, but, I’m back and I love doing what I’m doing which is truly helping others.”
