Wine Tasting Event - A Night to Remember!

Since 2005, Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center Foundation and LIQUORAMA Fine Wines and Spirits in Upland, CA, have hosted what many consider to be the premier wine tasting event in the Inland Empire, also known simply as the Annual Wine Tasting.

 

The net proceeds from the Annual Wine Tasting will be used to purchase critical pieces of equipment for Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center’s pediatric and neonatal intensive care (NICU) departments. Over the past six years, the Annual Wine Tasting has raised over $170,000 for the two departments. 

 

The 500 plus guests have the opportunity to taste an extraordinary collection of over 200 wines, selected from over 30 vintners from around the world. The demanding palate of LIQUORAMA’s owner and Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center Foundation board member, John Solomon, ensures the wines selected are truly rated 90 or above on a 100 point scale.

What Makes the Annual Wine Tasting so Unique?

 
Noted wine expert and owner of LIQUORAMA Fine Wines and Spirits in Upland, CA, John Solomon, spends months in preparation for the event by personally working with the most notable wineries and importers to select only the finest wines from their cellars for presentation at the Annual Wine Tasting. The reputation of this event has grown in the Inland Empire because of John’s passion for fine wine and also for his passion for Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center and the tender care provided to the most vulnerable patients in the NICU and pediatrics department. The Annual Wine Tasting has become the wine event that is not to be missed!
 

The Event


As guests arrive at the event, they each receive their own glass to use as they move from table to table to taste and discuss the wine that has been poured into their glass by winery vintner's.
 
Once poured, the guests may swirl the glass and hold it up to the light to view its color and appearance, and for red wines especially, to view the wines “legs” or “tears” as the French prefer.   It is very common to see tasters swirl the glass once more and put their nose deep into the bowl of the glass to sniff the various aromas from young wines and bouquets from the more mature vintages. Then there is the tasting and the “in mouth” sensations and then how the wine “finishes” or the aftertaste.

 

In the middle of the hotel’s ballroom will be a specially designed menu of hors d’oeuvres that are a perfect food match for the quality of wines being poured. Small tables are situated around the room so that the guests may sit or stand and enjoy the special wine and food pairing.

 

Once the guests have gone around the room and tasted, they usually come back to their favorites and inquire about buying a bottle here or a case there. Through the help of LIQUORAMA, guests will be able to purchase the wines of their choice, with all profits on the sale of the wine, donated back to Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center Foundation by LIQUORAMA.

 

The guests in attendance have made wonderful comments about how much they have enjoyed the event and how much fun they had making new friends. If a picture is worth a thousand words, then the pictures below certainly tell the story.

President's Society Luncheon

As a not-for-profit hospital, Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center relies on the financial support of many friends in the community.  In 1979, Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center Foundation was founded by the Hospital Board of Directors to encourage and receive charitable gifts to be used for the support of the Hospital's building and equipment needs.
 
Each year friends are asked to join or renew their membership in PVHMC Foundation's President's Society.  Membership in this special donor group is attained by an annual gift of $1,000 or more.  Your membership gift can be made on a one-time basis, or quarterly/monthly installments.
 
As a member of the President's Society you are invited to attend programs, special events and luncheons throughout the year featuring outstanding speakers who will bring you up to date on new and exciting medical technology and/or the economy as it relates to health care.  All members names are listed on the President's Society donor wall located in the Hospital's foyer near Pitzer Auditorium.
 
All gifts are tax deductible and will allow PVHMC Foundation to fulfill its mission of providing the Hospital with vital resources to ensure that the communities it serves have a hospital they need and deserve today and in the future.
