MAGNETIC RESONANCE IMAGING
MRI images are produced by a highly specialized machine that surrounds the patient with a powerful magnetic field. This harmless magnetic field enables a built-in computer to detect and interpret the radio waves that are emitted by atoms in the patient's body. The magnets in MRI machines are rated on the Tesla (T) scale, with magnets rated 1.0 T or better providing the most detailed images. Because some patients find the narrow, tube-like design of standard MRI machines constraining, new 'open' MRI machines have been designed to provide greater patient accessibility and comfort. Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center provides comprehensive MRI capabilities at two convenient locations. Our Siemens Symphony MRI machine (located in the Department of Radiology on the Hospital's main campus) is equipped with a powerful 1.5 Tesla magnet, comfort-controlled ventilation, and a special mirror system that allows patients a view of their surroundings. And our Hitachi Airis II open MRI machine (located at our Urgent Care Center in Montclair) offers full imaging capabilities in a comfortable open-air design. If you would like more information about MRI services provided through PVHMC, please contact the Department of Radiology at (909) 865-9580.
