Stroke Rehabilitation

Inpatient Stroke Rehabilitation

Stead Heart and Vascular Center's stroke recovery program at PVHMC includes three levels of rehabilitation. The first two levels are conducted while the patient is in the hospital. The length of stay for each phase varies depending upon the condition and progress of the individual patient.

Advanced Inpatient Rehabilitation Licensed PVHMC Physical, Occupational, and Speech Therapists specially trained in Stroke Rehabilitation work daily with inpatient stroke patients to identify the patient's major deficits and begin the recovery process with the goal of restoring physical and cognitive functions. Constant assessment to identify each patient’s needs, close monitoring of progress, and communication with the patient's family, nursing staff and physician are maintained throughout their hospital stay. Together, therapists and other Stroke Team members will determine the next appropriate level in the rehabilitation process after the inpatient phase.

Outpatient Stroke Rehabilitation

Stead Heart and Vascular Center's stroke recovery program at PVHMC includes three levels of rehabilitation. The first two levels are conducted while the patient is in the hospital. The third level is conducted after the patient leaves the hospital and is treated as an outpatient in the physical therapy and rehabilitation department.

The length of in each phase varies depending upon the condition and progress of the individual patient. With ongoing therapy, stroke patients can continue to make cognitive and functional improvements after they are discharged from the hospital. As an outpatient in our Stroke Rehabilitation Program, patients can receive Physical, Occupational, and Speech Therapy. Like our inpatient programs, specialized treatment plans are developed for each patient's individual needs and communication with family and physician remains a priority.

By receiving therapy at the hospital, it allows for important communication between your inpatient and outpatient therapists and improves the continuity of care and the ability to achieve functional goals. For more information about this third level of stroke rehabilitation, please visit the physical therapy section of the PVHMC Web site or call 909.865.9810.
