Chaplain Services
Introduction
The Chaplain Service at Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center is an interfaith service designed to provide spiritual care to patients and their families, while meeting the needs of our religiously diverse community.
A full-time Hospital Chaplain staffs the service and is assisted by CPE & volunteer chaplains from diverse faith groups trained to respond to persons of any or no religious background. Chaplain Services has contacts with representatives from most major religious traditions.
A Chaplain can offer a sensitive listening presence, help to facilitate conversation about spiritual concerns and mobilize the spiritual resources of patients and their families.
A Chaplain can provide support during family conferences and, because Hospital Chaplains are part of a multi-disciplinary health care team, they can provide support with treatment decisions and can assist in communicating with physicians and staff.
In addition, a Chaplain can offer pastoral functions such as prayer or sacraments (baptism, communion, anointing), and memorial services.
At the request of the patient or their family, a Chaplain can coordinate spiritual care and contact community clergy.
Community clergy are encouraged to contact Chaplain Service with their needs and concerns, as Chaplains work together with them in providing spiritual care for patients and their families.
Interfaith Chapel
Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center also provides patients and their families with an interfaith chapel, where they may have a moment of quiet solitude.
Religious literature can also be found in the chapel or by contacting Chaplain Services. The chapel is located on the third floor adjacent to DOU 3 South, accessible by taking elevator "D".
