How to Save a Life!

1/30/2013

For years during Heart month we have talked about how we have the power to prevent heart disease and stroke by knowing the importance of eating well and exercising, managing blood pressure and cholesterol, and smoking cessation.

We also have the power to ACT in the event of an emergency.

This year, as we celebrate Heart month, we are drawing attention to our important partnership with the Emergency Department and Emergency Medical Service providers in our region and what you can do in the event of a cardiovascular emergency.

YOU play a significant role in an emergency…Be prepared!

Familiarize yourself with lifesaving equipment – the Automatic External Defibrillator (AED). Is there one in your office or department? If not, where is the nearest AED? Take a look when attending public events (church, child’s school, sporting arena, and airport) – does the venue have an AED? Know where to find this important, vital lifesaving piece of equipment.

You can also become CPR certified and encourage your family members, coaches and teachers to take action and become certified to save a life! The American Heart Association is now advocating for “Sidewalk CPR” which no longer requires mouth to mouth breathing. Learn more about it at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xSUC0wTFAjU.

YOU are the first line of defense against the devastating effects of a cardiac arrest, heart   attack or stroke. In the event of an emergency your loved one depends on you to TAKE ACTION and call 911.

Attend the upcoming “Power of Red Event to see first-hand from the experts what to in the event of an emergency. Call the Foundation office at 909.865.9139 to get your ticket today!

Sidewalk CPR will also be demonstrated on the promenade at The Shoppes in Chino Hills. February 7—10 from Noon to 4:00 pm. Don’t miss the chance to learn what to do in an emergency. Shopping and learning to save a life – what could be better!
