Hospital Also Receives 2018 Cardiac Surgery Excellence Award, and

Five-Star Rating for Coronary Bypass Surgery and Carotid Surgery

Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center (PVHMC) was recently recognized by Healthgrades for being among the top 10 percent of hospitals in the nation for cardiac surgery — as measured by volume-weighted performance. Healthgrades is the leading online resource for comprehensive information about physicians and hospitals. PVHMC also achieved 5 stars for its performance in coronary bypass surgery and carotid surgery. Every year, Healthgrades evaluates hospital performance at nearly 4,500 hospitals nationwide for 34 of the most common inpatient procedures and conditions.*

“Patients who choose PVHMC’s Stead Heart and Vascular Center have the comfort of knowing they are part of the Pomona Valley’s top-rated, comprehensive heart program,” said Rama K. Thumati, MD, Medical Director of Cardiology Services. “We offer advanced technology and clinical innovation that allows us to deliver the highest standards of cardiac care.”

“The Healthgrades recognition demonstrates our commitment to provide state-of-the-art care to patients,” said Richard E. Yochum, FACHE, President and CEO. “We have invested in both the physical and the human resources necessary to ensure that we have the most complete line of cardiovascular and stroke services in the region.”

“Consumers value information about hospital quality and use it to evaluate their choices for care,” said Brad Bowman, MD, Chief Medical Officer, Healthgrades. “Hospitals that have achieved a specialty excellence distinction from Healthgrades prove a commitment to high-quality patient care.”

*For its analysis, Healthgrades evaluated approximately 45 million Medicare inpatient records for nearly 4,500 short-term acute care hospitals nationwide to assess hospital performance in 32 common conditions and procedures, and evaluate comparative outcomes in appendectomy and bariatric surgery using all-payer data provided by 17 states. Healthgrades recognizes a hospital’s quality achievements for cohort-specific performance, specialty area performance, and overall clinical quality. Individual procedure or condition cohorts are designated as 5-star (statistically significantly better than expected), 3-star (not statistically different from expected) and 1-star (statistically significantly worse than expected) categories.
