10/28/2013 Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center earns high marks for Cardiac and Total Joint and Spine Care

Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center (PVHMC) is pleased to announce that it has been recognized as a Blue Distinction Center for Specialty Care in three areas; cardiac, knee and hip replacement, and spine surgery; by the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association (BCBSA). Blue Distinction Centers are part of a national designation program that recognizes hospitals that demonstrate expertise in delivering quality specialty care, safely and effectively. This year marks the third year the hospital has been recognized for cardiac care, and the first year for knee and hip replacement, and spine surgery. PVHMC is the only hospital in the region designated as a Blue Distinction Center for those specialty care areas.

08/05/2013 PVHMC Adds Simulation Mannequins to Educate and Prepare Hospital Staff for Real-Life Scenarios

A new high-tech family has joined Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center in the form of simulation training mannequins, equipped to respond like human patients. The family of four, called patient simulators, are manufactured by Laerdal Medical, and include a male adult, a female adult, a newborn and an adolescent male child. The family is designed to educate and improve the competency of hospital physicians, nurses and staff by serving as training models on which to practice real-life scenarios that they may potentially face with patients at the hospital.

06/26/2013 Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center Awarded Susan G. Komen Grant For Diagnostic Breast Imaging Services

Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center (PVHMC) was recently awarded a first-time grant in the amount of $34,700 from the Los Angeles County Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Foundation for diagnostic breast imaging services. The grant will help support diagnostic breast imaging services for women under the age of 40, and men of any age, that are either uninsured or underinsured,  who are symptomatic and are in need of diagnostic breast imaging services such as diagnostic mammography, breast ultrasound and breast biopsy. PVHMC is the only hospital within eastern Los Angeles County to receive the grant.

06/12/2013 Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center Awarded Top Score For Patient Safety For Second Consecutive Year by The LEAPFROG GROUP

For the second consecutive year, Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center (PVHMC) has been honored with an “A” Hospital Safety ScoreSM by The Leapfrog Group, an independent national nonprofit run by employers and other large purchasers of health benefits. The Hospital Safety ScoreSM was calculated under the guidance of The Leapfrog Group’s Blue Ribbon Expert Panel using publicly available data on patient injuries, medical and medication errors, and infections. U.S. hospitals were assigned an A, B, C, D, or F for their safety.

05/16/2013 Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center Receives March Of Dimes Grant To Improve Health Of Mothers And Babies In The Region

The March of Dimes California Chapter has awarded the second year funding of a three-year grant to Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center (PVHMC) to support its Continuous Glucose Monitoring Pregnancy Project that is aimed at underserved maternal and child health needs in the Pomona Valley area. This program helps diabetic pregnant women get control of their blood sugar levels. Uncontrolled blood sugar is known to coincide with birth defects, high birth weight and other complications. The total grant amount for the three-year project is $150,000; year two funding is $50,000.

05/07/2013 Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center Recognized For Execllence in Emergency Prepardness

Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center (PVHMC) is a recipient of a grant from the Emergency Medical Services Agency of Los Angeles County (EMS Agency), and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) for the Hospital Preparedness Program (ASPR). PVHMC has been a recipient of this grant for the past nine years, and these grants have dramatically enhanced the hospitals preparedness efforts.

09/12/2012 Maternal Fetal Air Transport

Expectant mothers in seven California counties can now rest a little easier knowing that if they need emergency care for themselves or their pre-term baby help is on the way. Thanks to Mercy Air, helicopter services have been added to PVHMC’s long-standing ground transportation program. In 1994 PVHMC established its emergency Maternal-Fetal Transport Service, available 24-hours, 7 days-a-week.

05/21/2012 Nurses Float to Honor Tournament of Roses President Sally Bixby, RN and all Nurses at 2013 Rose Parade

2013 will be the first time that a nurse will be president of the Tournament of Roses, and only the second time that a woman was named to top role. Five registered nurses in California formed a non-profit organization, to raise money and build a float to honor Sally Bixby and nursing professionals worldwide for their tireless efforts.
