Specialized Cardiac Services

Cardiac Evaluation & Interventional Care

When it comes to cardiac emergencies, time is crucial! The Emergency Department works in partnership with the Hospital’s Cardiac Services team – the Stead Heart and Vascular Center -- to evaluate, diagnose and provide the most effective treatment for our cardiac patients.

STEMI Receiving Center (ST-Elevated Myocardial Infarction)

STEMI denotes a type of heart attack that needs immediate, specialized care. When notified of a STEMI patient PVHMC’s emergency and cardiac staffs respond urgently to enact live-saving measures for patients. Patients are immediately assessed and stabilized and then taken to the Cardiac Catheterization (Cath) Lab for an angioplasty whereby blockages in the heart are crushed, arteries are opened and secured, and lives are saved.

Designated Primary Stroke Centercardiac care

Much like a STEMI heart attack, stroke care requires an immediate response! Stroke patients who do not delay in seeking medical care have better outcomes. If treated in the first 4.5 hours after the onset of stroke symptoms physicians can minimize the complications of a stroke. Because the results of a stroke worsen with each passing second, rapid treatment is critical to minimizing complications. PVHMC has specific plans for the rapid treatment of stroke patients.

Therapeutic Temperature Management

Patients who experience Cardiac Arrest need urgent care! The Emergency Department and Cardiac Services now offer a unique treatment to assist patients with this condition. Upon arrival in the Emergency Department patients are immediately assessed and evaluated for treatment with Therapeutic Temperature Management. If needed, patients are completely sedated and undergo the internal lowering of their core body temperature to relieve pressure on the brain and the body to allow them to heal over a period of days. Patients frequently walk out of the hospital within a week with no complications and go on to lead active, healthy lives.
