Our Specialized Pulmonary Program
We are proud to offer a specialized pulmonary program, which is designed
to help increase knowledge, as well as improve the physical health and
ability, of those with pulmonary diseases. Our program helps you become
a better "self-manager," equipping you with the tools, resources,
and information needed to manage your disease on a daily basis.
This helps lead to improvement in your ability to participate in activities
and enjoy regular life. It also helps reduce your general shortness of
breath when you are better equipped to manage your disease.
Dedicated Respiratory Care Practitioners for Asthma
Asthma is a chronic inflammatory airway disease. Nearly 15 million individuals
in the U.S. are affected by asthma, resulting in hundreds of thousands
of hospitalizations every year as well. The Respiratory Care Practitioners
(RCP) at PVHMC help you not just understand, but manage your asthma in
a healthy way. We provide comprehensive asthma education classes, adhering
to the latest information provided by the National Heart, Lung and Blood
Institute of the National Institutes of Health.
Our RCPs review the following in class:
- Pulmonary physiology
- Recognizing the symptoms of asthma
- Identifying triggers of your asthma
- Controlling triggers
- Common asthma medications
- Peak flow meter and why monitoring is important
- Newer asthma medications
- Asthma prevention and action plans
You meet one on one with one of our knowledgeable RCPs to discuss these
health issues related to asthma-all free of charge. We also offer classes
in English and Spanish!
