Maternal Transport
Women who are pregnant and experience complications often require special attention and need rapid medical care during their pregnancy. Over 150 high-risk pregnant women are transferred safely and quickly to Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center each year. They receive the most advanced maternal and neonatal medical care available in the Greater Southern California area, regardless of their diagnosis, race, ethnicity, or financial status.
Established in 1994, our emergency Maternal-Fetal Transport Services are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Our team coordinates every transport. One call to 909.865.9713 immediately puts our team into action. We contact the Maternal-Fetal Medicine Physician, coordinate the method of transport (ground or air) and the multidisciplinary team is ready to respond and deploy within 30 minutes of accepting the request.
Our Maternal-Fetal Transport Team includes: Maternal-Fetal Medicine Physicians, Obstetricians, Physician sub-specialists, Registered Nurses and Respiratory Therapists. Our team understands the benefits of in-utero transports for mother and fetus. All members are highly trained to assess and stabilize the patient’s condition for transport quickly. Our specially designed and equipped vehicles ensure that patients receive the best and safest care possible.
Mobile Intensive Care
Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center’s Maternal-Fetal Transport Unit provides a mobile intensive care environment for pregnant patients en route to the hospital. Our Maternal-Fetal Transport Team maintains communication with our Maternal-Fetal Medicine Physicians during transports and is specially trained to care for the full range of maternal medical emergencies, including but not limited to:
- Bleeding after 20 weeks
- Hypertensive disorders
- Preterm Rupture of Membranes
- Preterm labor
- Multiple gestations (twins, triplets, etc.)
- Diabetes
- Fetal Anomalies
- Medical Complications of Pregnancy
Upon the arrival of our In-house Obstetricians, Neonatologists, Anesthesiologists, and Maternal-Fetal Medicine Physicians, they are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to provide state-of-the-art care. We are committed to providing compassionate, professional care to all our patients and families.
If needed, our 53-bed Level IIIB Neonatal Intensive Care Unit offers specialized care for critically ill infants. We offer programs to our high-risk moms and their babies that include:
- Sweet Success-Diabetes and Pregnancy
- Inpatient and Outpatient breastfeeding support programs
- Perinatal and Neonatal Bereavement Support Programs-“Helping Hands” & “Care Connect.”
- California Children’s Services (CCS) Provider

Maternal-Fetal Transport Services for Healthcare Partners
We value active collaboration with our healthcare partners and maintain ongoing engagement through both formal and informal educational opportunities for physicians and clinical staff at their sites. Educational offerings include OB emergencies; obesity in pregnancy; prolapsed cord, breech, and shoulder dystocia deliveries; the art of perinatal care; labor management; pain management; induction; breastfeeding; stroke and pregnancy; newborn assessment; culturally responsive care and perinatal loss; review of the new NRP guidelines; diabetes in the perinatal period; bleeding, hemorrhage, shock, and DIC in pregnancy; and high-risk pregnancies, among others.

Neonatal Transport Services
Established in 1994, the Neonatal Transport Team at Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center is a highly skilled group of registered nurses and respiratory therapists working with Board Certified Neonatologists to provide safe and efficient ground transport of sick newborns to a level IIIB intensive care unit.
We have a dedicated team available 24 hours a day, prepared to respond to a request for transport of an acutely ill infant within 30 minutes of transport acceptance.
