We offer education on newborn care and routine pediatric follow-ups. If necessary, our neonatal transport team is ready to quickly transfer infants requiring specialized care. PVHMC is designated as an Emergency Department Approved for Pediatrics (EDAP), equipped specifically for pediatric patients and staffed with trained professionals prepared to meet the needs of children of all ages. Our physicians and nurses are nationally certified in both pediatric emergency medicine and advanced life support.
When a newborn needs a higher level of specialized care, our Neonatal Transport Service provides timely, coordinated transfers to ensure access to advanced treatment. Our experienced transport team works closely with referring hospitals to safely move critically ill infants while maintaining continuity of care and supporting families throughout the process.

Before discharge, your baby will receive essential newborn screenings, including a hearing test and a full exam from your provider. Parents also receive hands-on education about feeding cues, safe sleep practices, diapering, bathing, and other newborn basics.
If a baby requires extra medical attention, our Level IIIb Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is equipped to provide specialized care for premature or medically fragile newborns. A dedicated team of neonatal experts is available 24/7 to support families during this time.
Professional newborn photography through Mom365 is available to help families preserve their baby’s first days. New arrivals are also celebrated on our Welcome Wall, featured on both the postpartum and labor & delivery floors.
Car seat safety is an important part of preparing for your baby’s first trip home. Before discharge, families receive guidance on proper car seat use to help ensure newborns are transported safely. Our team is available to answer questions and provide resources to support safe travel from the hospital and beyond.
Jaundice is common in newborns and occurs when bilirubin builds up in the blood during the first days of life. All babies are screened for jaundice before discharge to identify those who may need closer monitoring or treatment. Parents receive education on what to watch for at home and when to follow up with their baby’s provider. Click to learn more about Jaundice care in newborns.
