A Thanksgiving Message from the President and CEO

Every day, our Associates and Physicians aspire to advance healthcare for patients and their families by enhancing services and evolving the way we deliver care – that hasn’t changed in the 115 years we’ve served the community. Our accomplishments this past year exemplify the efforts of our dedicated, compassionate and enthusiastic team and their commitment to the health and wellness of the patients we serve. Here’s a few of the highlights:

  • Our stroke program was awarded Advanced Certification for Comprehensive Stroke Centers with The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® and the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Heart-Check mark – making us the only truly multidisciplinary stroke program in the region. As a Comprehensive Stroke Center, we have advanced imaging capabilities, availability of specialized treatments, and physicians and Associates with the unique education and competencies to care for complex stroke patients all 24/7, 365 days a year.
  • We were 5-star rated by Healthgrades for multiple procedures and treatments including coronary bypass surgery, back surgery, treatment of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, carotid procedures, and gallbladder removal surgery outcomes.
  • We established 24-hour Provider on Arrival at the triage desk in the Emergency Department (ED). With an ED-certified physician performing rapid medical exams at triage, we’ve reduced wait times and decreased the amount of time from arrival to discharge. PVHMC is one of the first in the region to staff ED arrival with emergency physicians exclusively.
  • The La Verne Health Center opened to serve the communities of La Verne and San Dimas, offering Primary Care, Urgent Care, Radiology and Rehabilitation Services.
  • And we welcomed more newborn babies to the world than any other hospital in Los Angeles and San Bernardino Counties – with more than 6,000 deliveries.

To the patients and their families who put their trust in us every day – thank you for making Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center your healthcare partner.

To the members of the community, including our volunteers, who have rallied around us and supported our vision – thank you for championing the importance of having a not-for-profit community hospital close to home.

To our donors for their faithful generosity – thank you for the countless initiatives you have funded and for believing that our community deserves specialized services and state-of-the-art technology comparable to academic medical centers.

To the Hospital, Foundation and Auxiliary board members, who ensure that we have the resources to keep improving our services – thank you for your leadership that has helped us become a nationally recognized hospital.

Together, we have advanced the quality of healthcare in our region, and we can’t wait to do even more in 2019 to further the health and wellness of our community.

Wishing you and your family a blessed Thanksgiving.

With gratitude,

Richard E. Yochum, FACHE
