Happy Earth Day! In honor of Earth Day, we’re excited to share with you just a few of the many ways that PVHMC has committed to implementing environmentally-friendly practices.
Through our partnership with Valley Vista, which sorts through our comingled regulated waste for all recyclables, NONE of the discarded cans, bottles, and/or other recyclables generated at PVHMC are dumped into the landfills. These recyclables include:
- Soda cans
- Discarded plastic items such as utensils
- Plastic blue wrap or other plastic wraps from surgical packs
- Various metal items
- All construction debris waste from projects and refurbishments
- Used Cooking oil
- Small amount of food waste
- Red bag waste is processed onsite through our San-I-Pak Autoclave
We also recycle all cardboard boxes and partner with the Stericycle company to safely process all reusable sharps containers.
Most recently, we eliminated the use of spray deodorizers, which contain harmful substances and replaced it with a non-hazardous, “green” odor neutralizer called Fresh Wave products. If you have been in our cafeteria, you may have also noticed that we replaced all of our plastic straws with recyclable and compostable versions!
In 2008, we were proud to receive our first Los Angeles Regional Agency (LARA) award for our efforts to reduce waste, and have been recognized with multiple LARA awards since then, most recently in 2018. Each year we continue to be more aware of ways to remain environmentally conscious, and look forward to implementing new sustainable, “green” processes in the future.
