PVHMC Recognized as American Red Cross Pump It Up Challenge Winner for Outstanding Community Blood Drive Support

Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center(PVHMC)was named as a winner in the American Red Cross Pump It Up Challenge, which recognizes high-achieving blood drive sponsors that have grown the number of blood donations collected in their community to help hospital patients in need.

Committed to helping save lives, PVHMC has helped collect more than 500 Red Cross blood donations for patients in need over the past eight months. In addition to four previously scheduled blood drives, the hospital has hosted four emergency blood drives to support the Red Cross when some of its partners were forced to close their doors due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Over these past few months, we have seen a tremendous out pouring of support from our community at our blood drives,” said Richard E. Yochum, FACHE, President and CEO at PVHMC. “As a proud Premier Blood Partner, we are deeply grateful for each and every person who has answered the call to donate blood, especially during these trying times. Giving blood is a simple act of generosity that can truly make a lifesaving difference.

”The need for blood and platelets is constant. In fact, every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs a blood transfusion, according to the Red Cross. All blood drives are held in the hospital’s Pitzer Auditorium.
