PVHMC Among Nation’s Top Hospitals for Treatment of Heart Attack Patients

Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center (PVHMC) has received the American College of Cardiology’s NCDR Chest Pain ̶ MI Registry Gold Performance Achievement Award for 2025. Of the 440 hospitals recognized nationwide with an achievement award, PVHMC is one of less than 20 hospitals to receive a Gold-level award.

PVHMC was recognized for its commitment to quality improvement and consistent adherence to evidence-based care for patients with acute myocardial infarction. To receive the Chest Pain ̶ MI Registry Gold Performance Achievement Award, PVHMC has demonstrated sustained achievement in the Chest Pain - MI Registry for three consecutive years (2023 -2025) and performed at a high level for specific performance measures, including:

• Door to Needle time (DTN)<=30 minutes (STEMI only)
• First Medical Contact (FMC) to device <=90min (STEMI only)
• Door-in/door-out time (STEMI only)
• Reperfusion therapy – restoring blood flow (STEMI only)
• Administering Acetylsalicylic Acid (ASA) on arrival
• Early troponin measurement (a protein that helps detect heart muscle damage) STEMI
• Cardiac rehabilitation referral
• And many more

*STEMI is a severe, life-threatening type of heart attack caused by a complete blockage of one of the heart's major coronary arteries

The Chest Pain ̶ MI Registry empowers health care provider teams to consistently treat heart attack patients according to the most current, science-based guidelines and establishes a national standard for understanding and improving the quality, safety and outcomes of care provided for patients with coronary artery disease, specifically high-risk heart attack patients.

At each juncture, our patients are receiving exceptional cardiovascular care.”

The Centers for Disease Control estimates that over 800,000 Americans suffer a heart attack each year. A heart attack occurs when a blood clot in a coronary artery partially or completely blocks blood flow to the heart muscle. Treatment guidelines include administering aspirin upon arrival and discharge, timely restoration of blood flow to the blocked artery, smoking cessation counseling and cardiac rehabilitation, among others.
