Keeping Up With Rehab Services

“$$$ For Physicals” Program Raises $12,000 for local schools in 2015
... $114,000 Since 2006!

Once again, as they do in the spring of every year, our Sports Medicine Center physicians, physical therapists and other Rehab Services staff members provided local student-athletes with comprehensive, CIF required "Pre-Participation Examination" (PPE) sports physicals while raising money for the school through the SMC's "$$$ For Physicals" program. This year the SMC performed 484 physicals raising a combined total of $12,051 for its five high school training rooms. Over the last ten years, “$$$ for Physicals” has provided 5,191 high school athletes with required physicals while helping to raise a grand total of nearly $114,255 benefiting our local high schools!

During the event athletes make their way through height, weight, blood pressure, vision, ear-nose-throat, cardio and ortho check stations. Those who pass the exams receive a signed clearance from their team doctor good for immediate participation in summer practices, training camps and high school sports for the upcoming school year.

The SMC physicians serve as team doctors at Bonita, Charter Oak, Claremont, Damien and San Dimas high schools. In addition to working closely with their school's coaching staff and athletic trainer to provide PPE physicals before the season begins, they also provide complimentary game coverage and support during the season.

PVHMC Physical Therapists with patients
New "Heart to Heart" Cardiac Support Group
Offered in conjunction with PVHMC's Stead Heart & Vascular Center
Cardiac disease impacts all aspects of one’s life. Living with the disease is a group effort, comprised of the patient, loved ones, and healthcare professionals. To that end, Rehab Services is pleased to announce Gloria Galvan RN, Clinical Quality Coordinator of PVHMC’s Cardiac Rehabilitation Program, will facilitate a new cardiac support group designed for persons with heart disease, caregivers and families, called “Heart to Heart”. The mission of the group is to provide hope, encouragement and knowledge to build a heart healthy lifestyle. Together, through shared experiences, discussion, and education this can be achieved.

The group is open to the community and will meet on the last Tuesday of each month from 12:00-1:00 pm in the Rehabilitation Services department on the first floor of the Robert and Beverly Lewis Outpatient Pavilion. If you know anyone who might benefit from “Heart to Heart”, please pass this information along. For questions contact Gloria Galvan in Rehab Services at 909-865-9810.

A beautiful new home with an honored name ...
Rehab Services Has Moved!

Rehab Services is up and running in PVHMC's new Robert and Beverly Lewis Outpatient Pavilion. Our new home will be known as the Charles M. Magistro Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Center. Charles Magistro established PVHMC’s physical therapy and rehabilitation services department more than 60 years ago. Throughout the years, he played an integral role in its success and growth, serving as director for 35 years.

We designed our new clinic to deliver the very best patient treatment experience. Our spacious rehab gym is equipped with state-of-the-art rehab and exercise equipment. We have designated areas for private exams, wound care, balance and neuro, hand and OT, speech, cardiac and pulmonary rehab, strength training, manual therapy, whirlpools … you name it, we’ve got it!

We think our new clinic is picture perfect. We love it, our patients love it, and when you see it, you’ll love it too!
Looking back over 60 years of success ... looking forward to 60 more
Rehabbing Rehab!

It’s been 60 years since we opened our doors as the first outpatient rehabilitation facility from Pasadena to San Bernardino. We’ve grown from just one physical therapist who made house calls, to over fifty PT, OT, ST, Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehab clinicians.

In 1954, when rehab first started at PVHMC, we were known simply as Physical Therapy, because that was the only type of treatment we offered at the time. Over the last 60 years our services have grown to include not just physical therapy, but also occupational therapy, speech therapy, cardiac rehab, pulmonary rehab and wellness, hence our new name ... Rehabilitation Services!

In 2015, Rehabilitation Services will embark on our next 60 years in the new Robert & Beverly Lewis Outpatient Pavilion at PVHMC. Join us over the next few months as we watch our new rehab facility literally grow from the ground up!

From inpatient to subacute to outpatient care ...

Still Going Strong - PVHMC Rehab Celebrates 1 Year Anniversary At Hillcrest In La Verne

One year ago this month, PVHMC assumed the responsibility of providing physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech-language pathology services at the “Woods” skilled nursing facility at Hillcrest, a multi-level retirement community in nearby La Verne. Ever since, those residents have enjoyed the same quality of comprehensive, coordinated rehab care they received during their acute inpatient stay at PVHMC, as they transition into a skilled subacute environment at Hillcrest and eventual outpatient rehab clinic at either PVHMC or PVHC Claremont. At each level along the way, members of our PVHMC rehab team provide the same protocols and continuity of care. This not only makes for a seamless transition from acute to subacute to outpatient rehab, it more importantly reduces costs and improves the quality of care. Future plans may include expanding our services to also provide outpatient rehab on the Hillcrest grounds, which will reduce travel and make it even more convenient for all who live in that retirement community.
