DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE PRESENTS POMONA VALLEY HOSPITAL MEDICAL CENTER PRESIDENT/CEO AND DIRECTOR OF CHILDREN’S SERVICES WITH PATRIOT AWARDS AT VETERANS DAY LUNCHEON
Luncheon Honored Hospital Associates and Volunteers Who Have Served or Are Currently Serving in the Military
Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center (PVHMC) recently hosted a Veterans Day Luncheon where 50 Associates and volunteers were honored by the Hospital for their service. Richard E. Yochum, FACHE, President/CEO and Navy Veteran of the Vietnam War and Michelle Atkins Young, MBA, BSN, RN, NE-BC, Director of Children’s Services were each presented with the Patriot Award for their support of Associates who depart from civilian life to serve in the military or reserves. Michael Nelson, Chief Financial Officer, accepted the award on behalf of Yochum.
The Patriot Awards were presented by Reginald Fields, a representative of the Department of Defense and Employer Support of the Guard and Reserves. The Patriot Award reflects the efforts an individual has made to support citizen warriors through a wide-range of measures including flexible schedules, time off prior to and after deployment, caring for families, and granting leaves of absence if needed. PVHMC recognizes the value of its Associates’ military backgrounds, as they often go above and beyond for patients and their families. In the healthcare industry, where job demand continues to outpace supply, individuals with experience in the armed forces are recognized as high-quality talent. PVHMC honors service members from all walks of life, who share the fundamental qualities of courage, pride, determination, selflessness, dedication to duty and integrity –qualities needed to serve a cause larger than one’s self.
During the luncheon, those who have transitioned from active military life to become Associates at the Hospital received special recognition for their service.
